Guitar After-School Teacher

Job Description

Reaching for the Arts is looking for one committed Guitar Teacher to complement our qualified workforce of educators. You will be responsible for preparing and implementing after school guitar lessons to beginning and intermediate students ages 8-14. Lessons will be held at the Riverside School for Makers and Artists location, once, weekly from 4 to 6pm. It will be fundamental to provide knowledge and instruction of guitar technique and music theory to students while also fostering their passions in the arts. The ideal candidate will be passionate for supporting underserved communities with an ability to reach out to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. The goal is to help cultivate the students’ interest in music education and be their ally in creating arts equity for all.

Responsibilities

  • Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning (if in a digital learning environment due to COVID, in person instruction when restrictions are lifted)

  • Provide individualized instruction to each student

  • Create and implement a spiral learning curriculum

  • Assess and record students’ progress

  • Prepare students for 2 performances a year (digital or in-person)

  • Lead the students in their performances

  • Collaborate with other teachers, students, and parents

Skills

  • Proven experience as a guitar performer or as a guitar teacher

  • Thorough knowledge of guitar technique and best practices

  • Excellent communicability and interpersonal skills

  • Well-organized and committed

  • Creative and energetic

  • Degree in teaching or in a performance art

Job Type: Contractor

Salary: $30.00 /hour
