Job Description

Reaching for the Arts is looking for two committed Strings Teachers to complement our qualified workforce of educators. You will be responsible for preparing and implementing after school strings lessons and group orchestra to beginning and intermediate students ages 8-14. Lessons will be held at one of our two after-school locations, twice weekly from 4 to 6pm. It will be fundamental to provide knowledge and instruction of strings technique and music theory to students while also fostering their passions in the arts. The ideal candidate will be passionate for supporting underserved communities with an ability to reach out to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. The goal is to help cultivate the students’ interest in music education and be their ally in creating arts equity for all.

Responsibilities

• Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning (if in a digital learning environment due to COVID)

• Provide individualized instruction to each student

• Create and implement a spiral learning curriculum

• Assess and record students’ progress

• Prepare students for 2 strings performances a year (digital or in-person)

• Lead the students in their performances

• Collaborate with other teachers, students, and parents

Skills

• Proven experience as a strings performer or as a strings teacher

• Thorough knowledge of strings technique and best practices

• Excellent communicability and interpersonal skills

• Well-organized and committed

• Creative and energetic

• Degree in teaching or in a performance art

Job Type: Contractor

Salary: $25.00 to $40.00 /hour
